Cyprus Exchange and Securities Commission (CySEC) is the top financial markets regulator in Cyprus. Established in 2001 their main responsibility is to supervise and control the operations carried out on the local stock exchange, brokers, and brokerage firms. CySEC became part of the European MiFID regulation in 2004, the same year Cyprus has adhered to the EU.
Other responsibilities of CySEC are to supervise investment funds, mutual fund management companies, grant licenses to investment firms, and to impose penalties to market participants.
